Work and home have different sets of rules.
It is hard to switch from work to home and back again in the same day. A lot of men can be direct and sure of themselves at work, then bring that same energy home and feel like it lands as cold or too much. The short-term move is to grit your teeth, hold your tongue, and get through the evening. That only lasts so long.
Most men were not trained to talk about what is actually going on. The lesson was to get over it and work harder. Partnership and fatherhood ask for more than that training gave you, and it can show up as distance, a short fuse, or the sense that you are failing at home even when you are doing your part.
Therapy gives husbands and fathers a place to slow down and say the thing out loud before it comes out sideways. Sonder Therapy Group in San Diego works with men who feel worn down, disconnected, or short with their families. Sessions can be in person at the Broadway office or online. The work can focus on what you need, how you talk at home, and making a little more room for calm with the people you care about.
If you have never done therapy, or tried it once and it did not stick, say that in the first session. This is practical work: what is actually happening at home, what you want to be different, and what to try between sessions.
